The mission of the funder is to improve the administration of justice in state courts nationwide.
Project Grants are designed to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of state courts through supporting innovative education, training, demonstration, and technical assistance projects. These grants aim to benefit the administration of justice either locally or across the nation. Applicants eligible for these grants include state or local courts, national court support or education organizations, non-court units of government, and other entities authorized by SJI's legislation. Projects are assessed based on various criteria, including methodology soundness, demonstrated need, evaluation design, project management, team qualifications, and potential long-term benefits for state courts. Importantly, successful applications demonstrate the ability to transfer findings and innovations to other jurisdictions, exhibit cooperation with affected agencies, and present a reasonable budget.
