The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives.
The Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) program aims to support the establishment and development of innovative biomedical and behavioral research centers at IDeA-eligible institutions. This is achieved through awards for three sequential five-year phases. The COBRE Phase 2 award focuses on strengthening successful COBRE Phase 1 centers by further improving research infrastructure and continuing the development of a critical mass of investigators with shared scientific interests. These efforts are designed to enhance the investigators' ability to compete effectively for independent research funding, with an emphasis on further improvements to research infrastructure at the institution.
