ASC: Cultural Organization Support Grants (formerly Technical Assistance Grant)

The designated “Office of Cultural Resources” for the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and six suburban towns focuses on advocacy, cultural education, planning, fundraising, grant making, public art, and workshops for the cultural community. It aims to ensure access to a high-quality, relevant, and sustainable cultural community for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Region by combining local, state, and private resources to maximize community impact.

Overview

The Cultural Organization Support Grant program is designed for nonprofit cultural organizations in Mecklenburg County focused on arts, science, history, and heritage. It provides financial resources to invest in capacity building opportunities aimed at improving the organization’s management, developing audiences, strengthening fundraising efforts, and achieving operating efficiencies. This program emphasizes the importance of staff and board development at all levels of the organization. Additionally, it supports efforts to understand the organization’s environmental culture, the history and legacy of white supremacist structures, and to create action plans that embody equity in their work.

  • Projects should be a one-time strategic opportunity
  • Encourages partnership with BIPOC facilitators/trainers or consulting teams that include BIPOC equity experts
  • Eligible expenses include consulting fees, one-time software costs, and contract fees
  • Strongly encourages projects that focus on anti-racism and enhancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
  • Supports BIPOC led organizations recovering from historical inequities
  • Applicants may request up to $20,000 or 50% of the total project budget, whichever is less
  • Applicants are expected to provide a 1-1 cash or in-kind match
