The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives.
The grant aims to support investigator-initiated, high-risk multi-center clinical studies in areas relevant to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). Through a two-part process that may include an implementation planning cooperative agreement (U34), it focuses on permitting early peer review of the proposed study's rationale, assessing the study's design and protocol, providing support for the development of essential documents such as operation manuals, and supporting other key elements necessary for conducting the clinical study. The clinical study must be hypothesis-driven and relate to a disease within the NIDDK’s mission. Applicants are strongly encouraged to consult with NIDDK scientific staff prior to submission.
