The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives.
This grant program seeks to fund research projects addressing the development, exacerbation, and ineffective management of co-occurring conditions in marginalized communities of People with HIV (PWH), particularly focusing on the impact of racism, marginalization, discrimination, and stigma, and their connection with social and structural risks. The projects should adopt a syndemics framework to understand these dynamics and may include mechanistic interventional approaches, policy/program evaluation studies, or epidemiology studies designed to improve equity and outcomes for PWH. Research should align with the missions of NIDDK or NHLBI, aiming to build a solid evidence base for better managing co-occurring conditions.
