Overview

The ARO Staff Research Program focuses on enabling ARO scientific staff to engage in hands-on, basic research to maintain and expand their professional competence. This effort supports the ARO's broader mission by facilitating staff research in collaboration with external institutions. The program emphasizes scientific study directed towards advancing the state-of-the-art or increasing knowledge and understanding in various scientific fields, including engineering, physical, life, and information sciences, particularly where these areas intersect with the interests and capabilities of external institutions. A critical aspect of the program is protecting mission integrity by ensuring ARO scientists remain impartial and avoid activities that could compromise their objectivity. As a part of the staff research efforts, ARO scientists may participate in publication, co-authorship of research results, and the education and training of students, all while adhering to specific guidelines to prevent conflicts of interest and ensure impartiality in their roles as Program Managers.
