Type of Support

Overview

The Emergency Community Water Assistance Grants program assists eligible rural communities in preparing for, or recovering from, an emergency that compromises the availability of safe, reliable drinking water. Events that can trigger the need for assistance under this program include droughts, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes or hurricanes, disease outbreaks, chemical spills, leaks, seepage, and other disasters. Key uses of the funds include grants of up to $150,000 for water transmission line projects, such as constructing waterline extensions, repairing breaks or leaks in existing distribution lines, and necessary maintenance tasks. Additionally, grants of up to $1 million are available for the construction of water sources, intakes, or treatment facilities. The overarching goal is to restore or prevent damage to access to clean and reliable water in rural areas and towns after natural disasters, thereby also supporting environmental improvement and economic development by encouraging businesses to start or expand in these areas.
