Overview

This grant program supports eligible communities in preparing for or recovering from emergencies that compromise safe, reliable drinking water access. Emergencies can include droughts, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes or hurricanes, disease outbreaks, and chemical spills, among others. Funding may be used for water transmission line grants up to $150,000 to construct extensions, repair leaks in distribution lines, or necessary maintenance and water source grants up to $1,000,000 for constructing water sources, intakes, or treatment facilities. A federal disaster declaration is not required to qualify.

  • Must show a major decline in quantity or quality of water occurred within two years of the application date
  • Grants also awarded when a significant decline in quality and quantity of water is imminent
  • Area served must have a median household income less than the state’s median household for non-metropolitan areas
