Type of Support

Overview

This grant program aims to support qualified organizations in implementing local self-help housing construction projects. The primary goal is to assist very-low- and low-income individuals and families to build their own homes through a group effort in rural areas. The program focuses on enabling these groups to provide most of the construction labor on each other’s homes, with essential technical assistance and supervision provided by the overseeing organization. Eligible areas for the projects can be determined through the USDA Eligibility Site. The funds may be used for providing technical and supervisory assistance to the families involved, helping other organizations offer similar assistance, recruiting families, assisting them with loan applications, and supporting related activities that facilitate their participation in the program.
