Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grants in Iowa

From USDA: Rural Development (RD)

We are committed to helping improve the economy and quality of life in rural America.

Type of Support

Overview

This grant program is aimed at supporting qualified organizations in their efforts to assist very-low- and low-income individuals and families to construct their own homes in rural areas. The approach is based on a self-help model where groups of families and individuals provide most of the labor needed for building each other's houses, under the guidance and technical assistance of the overseeing organization. Eligible regions for such projects can be determined through the USDA Eligibility Site. The grants may be used for providing technical and supervisory assistance to participating families, aiding other organizations in offering similar assistance, recruiting families, assisting them with loan applications, and related activities to facilitate their participation in self-help housing construction projects.
