Type of Support

Overview

This grant program supports qualified organizations in conducting local self-help housing construction projects for very-low- and low-income individuals and families in rural areas. The program emphasizes self-reliance by having group members provide a majority of the construction labor on each other’s homes under the guidance and technical assistance of the overseeing organization. Its aim also includes providing technical and supervisory assistance, helping families through loan application processes, and facilitating the recruitment of families for participation. Assistance is also extended to other organizations to enable them to provide similar support. Eligible areas for the projects can be determined using the USDA Eligibility Site.
