The mission of the American Cancer Society is to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support, aiming to ensure everyone has the opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.
The American Cancer Society (ACS) focuses on advancing its mission through specific priority areas in cancer research. These include Etiology, Obesity/Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL), Screening and Diagnosis, Treatment, Survivorship, and Health Equity Across the Cancer Continuum. The Research Scholar Grants (RSG) are designed to support independent researchers at U.S. academic institutions or non-profits, who are relatively early in their careers (less than ten years as full-time faculty) and have no more than one R01 or equivalent grant. The grants are focused on investigator-initiated projects that must align with at least one ACS priority research area, covering costs up to $215,000 per year for up to four years.
