The mission of the American Cancer Society is to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support, aiming to ensure everyone has the opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.
The American Cancer Society prioritizes research funding across six areas: Etiology, Obesity/Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL), Screening and Diagnosis, Treatment, Survivorship, and Health Equity Across the Cancer Continuum. The ASTRO-ACS Clinician Scientist Development Grant supports full-time faculty members, especially those from underrepresented groups, in becoming independent investigators in the field of radiation oncology. Applicants must be involved in clinical care, not have been principal investigators on major grants previously, and can receive awards for 3 to 5 years, with funding of $135,000 a year for direct costs plus 8% for indirect costs.
