The mission of the funder is to advance the field of biophysics by supporting research and development in various scientific disciplines such as math, chemistry, physics, engineering, pharmacology, and materials sciences. This support aims to encourage the use of interdisciplinary skills to explore and develop new tools for understanding the mechanisms of life and the complex systems within our bodies.
The Biophysical Society Awards program focuses on recognizing outstanding contributions within the biophysics community across sixteen different categories. Specifically, the BPS Award in the Biophysics of Health and Disease is designed to honor members who have significantly contributed to understanding diseases' fundamental causes or pathogenesis or have facilitated their treatment or prevention. This particular award includes an honorarium of $2,000 for the recipient. Nominees must be society members, as well as the nominator and the author of one of the supporting letters. While the program encourages members to nominate deserving candidates, including self-nominations for most categories, the Fellows distinction and the Outstanding Doctoral Research in Biophysics Award do not allow for self-nomination.
