The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation is committed to alleviating the suffering caused by mental illness by awarding grants that will lead to advances and breakthroughs in scientific research.
The overarching goal of the grant program is to fund innovative neuroscience and psychiatry research that uncovers the causes and develops new treatments for brain and behavior disorders. This includes a wide array of illnesses such as addiction, ADHD, anxiety, autism, bipolar disorder, BPD, depression, eating disorders, OCD, PTSD, and schizophrenia, among others. Key to their funding approach is the support of groundbreaking ideas, such as optogenetics, deep brain stimulation for treatment-resistant depression, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and rapid-acting antidepressants. Additionally, the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation awards the Lieber Prize for Schizophrenia Research to bring public recognition to significant discoveries in schizophrenia research, with an award of $50,000 to the winner(s) during an annual ceremony in New York City.
