Translational Research Projects

From California Institute for Regenerative Medicine

The mission of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) is to accelerate world-class science to deliver transformative regenerative medicine treatments in an equitable manner to a diverse California and world.

    Type of Support

    Overview

The objective of CIRM's Translational Research Projects is to offer a highly competitive opportunity for promising regenerative medicine projects, including stem cell-based or gene therapy projects. It focuses on accelerating the completion of translational stage activities necessary for these projects to advance to clinical study or become broadly used. The initiative supports various product types, including:

    • TRAN1: Stem cell-based or gene therapy therapeutic candidates.
    • TRAN2: Diagnostics or medical imaging agents based on stem cells, or critical for stem cell or gene therapy development or use.
    • TRAN3: Medical devices (non-diagnostic) for stem cell-based therapy or critical for stem cell or gene therapy development or use.
    • TRAN4: Novel tools that address critical bottlenecks in the discovery or development of stem cell-based or gene therapy. The funding for these projects varies by the product type, with limits set at $4M for Cell Therapy, Genetic Therapy, Biologic; $2M for Small Molecule Therapy; $1.2M for Diagnostic; $2M for Medical Device; and $1M for Tools.
