The California Tahoe Conservancy leads California's efforts to restore and enhance the natural and recreational resources of the Lake Tahoe Basin. Its mission encompasses supporting near-shore environmental programs and projects, managing aquatic invasive species, improving public access to sovereign land, and executing land acquisitions for conservation purposes.
The Conservancy's Prop 68 grant program aims to support its strategic goals, including land stewardship, wildfire protection, forest and watershed resilience, public access and outdoor recreation, and Basinwide climate adaptation. Proposition 68, which allocated $27 million to these efforts, particularly focuses on open space acquisition, creation of urban greenways, and promoting diversity and inclusion in benefiting communities. $5 million is designated for local assistance grants to advance these objectives and the Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program.
