The mission focuses on strengthening agriculture, commercial fishing, and forest products in the Northeastern United States through financial support. This encompasses promoting diversity, assisting farms of all sizes, and creating opportunities for new entrants into agriculture.
The AgEnhancement Grant program, funded by Northeast agricultural credit associations and CoBank, aims to promote awareness and strengthen the agriculture, commercial fishing, and forest products sectors in the eight-state Northeast region. Since 1996, it has awarded more than 2 million dollars to various projects. The program supports initiatives that have a long-term positive effect on these industries, including statewide and regional projects. Supported areas include leadership development for young farmers, economic viability and enhancement projects, programs to promote Northeast agriculture and recognize industry leaders, projects to build a better understanding of agriculture, forestry, and commercial fishing, and economic analyses to foster agriculture. The program actively supports diversity and inclusion by encouraging proposals that promote minority involvement in agriculture and related businesses.
