The Community Foundation's mission is to support high-impact nonprofits serving Prince George’s County's low-income residents, addressing urgent community needs, advancing economic justice, and working to close the racial/ethnic wealth gap. This includes empowering the nonprofit community and residents to overcome challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic and future hurdles through targeted community support.
The grant program focuses on broad goals that include fostering community connections to encourage participation and involvement, empowering youth through education and leadership opportunities, promoting anti-racism and inclusion for equitable opportunities among all racial and ethnic groups, and supporting vulnerable populations to address immediate needs and long-term wellbeing. The program offers "Community Grants" to small nonprofit organizations for supporting their overarching mission with flexible use of funds, capped at $5,000. "Solidarity Grants" target larger nonprofits with a commitment to the foundation's mission, offering support with a cap of $1,000 and not restricted to specific projects or programs.
Priority is assigned to applications from entities that: enhance the resilience and cohesion of the Takoma community; deliver outcomes unattainable without funding support; are rational, feasible, and poised for execution; cater to the requirements of individuals with low to moderate income; and ensure responsibility for attaining outcomes. A preferential consideration is directed towards organizations operating on an annual budget of $150,000 or below. Additionally, special attention is granted to entities focusing on the following demographic groups: youth, marginalized communities, and those lacking adequate services.
