Established in 1983 with contributions from biochemists worldwide, the fund aims to provide short-term fellowships to trainee and early career biochemists for research and training in laboratories other than their own, enhancing global collaboration and expertise exchange in the field.
The Wood-Whelan Research Fellowships focus on supporting junior biochemists and molecular biologists from IUBMB member countries. The goal is to facilitate their travel to other laboratories within the IUBMB region for special experiments, scientific collaboration, or advanced training. These fellowships, lasting 1-4 months, intend to cover travel, living expenses, and incidental costs up to US $4,000. They are designated for Ph.D.-seeking graduate students or junior researchers within 5 years of their PhD, aiming to foster international scientific cooperation and skill development by enabling access to unique techniques and training opportunities.
