The mission of the Li Fang-Kuei Society for Chinese Linguistics (LFKS) centers on recognizing and promoting excellence in the fields of Chinese historical phonology and Sino-Tibetan language studies, honoring the legacy of Professor Li Fang-Kuei.
The Field Work Award supports scholars and advanced graduate students who aim to conduct field investigations on languages and dialects either directly part of the Sinitic family or those non-Sinitic languages and dialects that have a relation to Chinese linguistics. The grant aims to encourage in-depth linguistic fieldwork, reflecting a broad goal of preserving and studying linguistic diversity and its interactions with Chinese linguistics. Specifically, it supports projects that can include travel and research expenses for 1.5 to 2 months of field investigation. The grant awards U.S. $2,000 to $2,500, based on the project's length and quality, with payments made in two installments. This financial support is designed to cover legitimate research expenses and to incentivize the production of scholarly articles based on the field investigation.
