The U.S. National Science Foundation is an independent federal agency that supports science and engineering in all 50 states and U.S. territories. NSF was established in 1950 by Congress to promote the progress of science, advance the national health, prosperity and welfare, and secure the national defense.
GRANTED by NSF aims to foster transformative ideas and scalable models to bolster the Nation’s research enterprise, particularly focusing on emerging and minority-serving institutions. It addresses the complexities of managing externally funded activities, heightened by recent challenges such as the pandemic's impact on staff attrition and budget constraints. The initiative focuses on enhancing human capital, practices, and processes across various aspects of the research enterprise, including but not limited to research administration, technology transfer, public-private partnerships, and research leadership. Starting in FY2023, GRANTED will work towards mitigating resource insufficiencies to allow institutions to better develop and manage externally funded projects, aiming to unlock the full potential of creativity across all higher education institutions and their partners.
