The mission of LCHIP (Land and Community Heritage Investment Program) is to conserve and preserve New Hampshire’s most important natural, cultural, and historic resources. Since its inception in 2001, LCHIP has awarded $54 million dollars to various organizations, indicating a commitment to the protection and celebration of New Hampshire's rich heritage across its communities.

Overview

The Historic Rehabilitation Grant aims to support historic preservation efforts, focusing on the protection and preservation of buildings, structures, districts, and sites significant to local, state, or national history. The program underscores the value of preserving the physical aspects of the built environment as well as enhancing the vitality, quality of life, and sense of place within communities. Grants are offered from $10,000 to $500,000, funding up to 50% of the total project cost, to ensure the irreplaceable elements of history and culture are maintained for future generations.

  • Resources must be listed or determined eligible for listing on the State or National Register of Historic Places before applying
  • Must adhere to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties
  • Projects with a total budget over $50,000 require a Historic Building Assessment or Historic Structure Report by a preservation professional
  • Projects involving modernization need a Historic Building Assessment or Historic Structure Report, regardless of cost
