The mission of LCHIP (Land and Community Heritage Investment Program) is to conserve and preserve New Hampshire’s most important natural, cultural, and historic resources. Since its inception in 2001, LCHIP has awarded $54 million dollars to various organizations, indicating a commitment to the protection and celebration of New Hampshire's rich heritage across its communities.
The Preservation Planning Grant focuses on historic preservation, protecting and preserving buildings, structures, districts, and sites significant to local, state, or national history. It aims to maintain the irreplaceable physical resources and enhance community vitality and identity. The grant supports the development of preservation plans like Historic Structure Reports or Historic Building Assessments, providing a roadmap for the reuse of historic resources. Prepared by professionals, these comprehensive reports assess historical functions and preservation needs, leading to prioritized recommendations for restoration or rehabilitation following the Secretary of the Interior’s Standard for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Grants range from $5,000 to $25,000, covering no more than 50% of the total project cost.
