To encourage the shared prosperity of all Pennsylvanians by supporting good stewardship and sustainable development initiatives across our commonwealth.
The Orphan or Abandoned Well Plugging Program (OAWP) is designed to support the plugging of abandoned and orphan wells that pose potential health, safety, or environmental risks. It encompasses projects that clean out and plug these hazardous wells, implement stray gas mitigation systems, and conduct well venting projects to mitigate dangers associated with orphan or abandoned oil and gas wells. This initiative reflects a focused effort to address the environmental and safety challenges presented by the state's long history of oil and gas exploitation.
