The Avenir Award supports early-stage investigators embarking on highly innovative studies. It focuses on aiding those at the beginning of their careers who may not have the preliminary data for an R01 grant but propose impactful research and demonstrate potential as future leaders. NIDA has initiated two Avenir Award Programs for research in HIV/AIDS and in genetics or epigenetics. Each application may request up to $300,000 in Direct Costs annually for a maximum of five years, in addition to applicable Facilities and Administrative (F&A) costs.
