Type of Support

Overview

The Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Program is focused on helping local communities recover in the aftermath of natural disasters. It provides financial and technical assistance for a variety of emergency recovery measures without the need for a national emergency declaration. Authorized activities under this program include debris removal, erosion control, drainage facility restoration, levee and structure repair, and conservation practice repair. Additionally, the NRCS may fund the purchase of easements in floodplains to enhance wetland and riparian functions, support wildlife habitat, improve water quality, and contribute to flood management. Local project sponsors play a crucial role by providing land rights, securing permits, contributing a local cost share (25% of project costs), and managing the installation of recovery measures. This program emphasizes the restoration, protection, and conservation of natural resources while ensuring community safety and property protection.
