We are committed to helping improve the economy and quality of life in rural America.
The Emergency Community Water Assistance Grants program supports eligible communities in preparing for or recovering from emergencies that compromise the availability of safe, reliable drinking water. This grant caters to a variety of emergency situations such as droughts, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes or hurricanes, disease outbreaks, and chemical spills without necessitating a federal disaster declaration. Key application points include offering water transmission line grants up to $150,000 and water source grants up to $1,000,000. These funds can be used for projects like constructing waterline extensions, repairing leaks in existing distribution lines, constructing water sources or intake or treatment facilities, among other maintenance activities to ensure continued water supply. This initiative reflects USDA Rural Development's commitment to prevent damage and restore clean water access to households and businesses in rural areas following natural disasters, enhancing the natural environment and economic development in these communities.
