Type of Support

Overview

This grant program is designed to support qualified organizations in executing local self-help housing construction projects. These projects assist very-low- and low-income individuals and families in rural areas to construct their own homes. The unique aspect of the program is that the families involved provide most of the construction labor for each other's homes under the guidance and technical assistance of the supervising organization. The goals extend to offering technical and supervisory aid to participant families, assisting other organizations in providing similar support, and facilitating the participation of families in these projects through recruitment, assistance with loan applications, and other related activities. Eligibility for the grant requires the project to be in a rural area, as determined by the USDA Eligibility Site.
