VA Agricultural BMP Cost-Share (VACS) Program

From Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (VDCR)

To conserve Virginia's natural and recreational resources

Type of Support

Overview

The Agricultural BMP Cost-Share (VACS) Program is aimed at supporting conservation efforts on various types of land including cropland, pastureland, hay land, and forested land. The program provides financial support through flat rates, straight per-acre rates, and cost-sharing on a percentage basis up to 100 percent, often supplemented by funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This financial structure is designed to reduce the expense for landowners to less than 30% of the total cost of conservation practices. Only those plans that align with local water quality guidelines are supported, ensuring that funds are allocated efficiently and effectively. An emphasis is placed on practices that improve or protect water quality while also enhancing farm productivity through soil conservation and the efficient use of farm resources. An individual's annual cost-share assistance is capped at $300,000.
