Type of Support

Overview

The Virginia Organic Cost Share Program aims to support and encourage organic farming and production practices by reimbursing a significant portion of the costs associated with organic certification. This program, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Organic Program (NOP), provides financial assistance to eligible growers and processors, covering 75 percent of their certification costs, up to a maximum of $750 per certification category. Administered by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), this initiative seeks to alleviate some of the financial burden of obtaining organic certification, thereby promoting adherence to practices that enhance soil health, protect the environment, ensure animal welfare, and avoid synthetic substances in accordance with USDA organic standards.
