Now in its fourth decade, the Arts Council New Orleans is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in New Orleans by supporting, activating, and investing in the city's artists, cultural producers, and creative community. The Council envisions a New Orleans where arts and culture play a pivotal role in all areas of policy, planning, and placemaking, aiming for a more equitable, joyful, and resilient city.
The More Joy Community Arts Grant program supports groups engaging the New Orleans community through activities like parading, public performance, and other street-based activities that pay homage to the city's street parading culture. This includes traditions of the Black Masking Indians (Mardi Gras Indians) and Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs, focusing on promoting the success of street parades, examining cultural traditions, educating children under 18 in these traditions, and bringing joy to New Orleans' neighborhoods. The grants facilitate exhibitions, workshops, and presentations dedicated to preserving and celebrating the street paradings of New Orleans.
