Damon Runyon aims to address the critical shortage of physician-scientists in the field of cancer research. By encouraging physicians to pursue research careers, the Foundation seeks to accelerate the translation of scientific discovery into more effective patient therapies, ultimately improving survival and quality of life among cancer patients.
The Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation Award aims to support exceptionally creative early career researchers proposing high-risk/high-reward ideas with the potential to significantly advance our understanding or approaches to preventing, diagnosing, or treating cancer. It is targeted towards innovative new ideas lacking sufficient preliminary data for traditional funding, expressly not supporting incremental advances. The research funded must be novel, highly creative, and, if successful, poised to make a substantial impact in the cancer field.
