The James A Welch Foundation is committed to expanding educational opportunities for talented young students in Genesee County, Michigan, through financial support for projects and programs. Since 1960, the foundation has aimed to help talented students navigate increasingly complex choices, pressures, societal challenges, and economic hurdles, believing in the transformative power of education for promising individuals.
The grant program focuses on identifying and assisting academically and/or creatively talented students in Genesee County, Michigan. The James A. Welch Foundation seeks to support projects that (1) identify students with exceptional academic or creative talents through guidance and counseling services, encouraging them to pursue their special talents and (2) provide additional educational opportunities to cultivate these identified talents further. Applicants are required to define what constitutes "academically talented" and/or "creatively talented" students within their proposals, outline the selection process for identifying such students, and describe how the program will aid in their continued development or progression to the next level of their talent cultivation.
