The Weil Foundation aims to continue the legacy of Drs. John and Geraldine Weil by addressing psychological problems in children. Established in 1999, it focuses on improving the availability of mental health professionals for children, supporting organizations in Greater Boston that offer direct services such as counseling and therapy for at-risk children, and funding research on effective methods to prevent and treat child abuse.
The John Leopold Weil and Geraldine Rickard Weil Memorial Charitable Foundation Grant supports charitable organizations aiming to improve the mental health of children. The Foundation has contributed over four million dollars and considers multi-year proposals, though it typically does not fund an organization for more than three consecutive years. Currently, the Foundation is directing its remaining resources to support partner organizations that focus on the education of psychologists and psychiatrists through internships and training programs. It is no longer accepting grant applications from other organizations.
