From Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation, established in 2005 by the Business Council of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, aims to enhance the community for all residents focusing on expanding opportunities for the disadvantaged, protecting the environment, and improving the lives of youth. It grants funds to vital community organizations and manages funds to meet future regional needs.

Overview

The Foundation offers capital and program grants across five focus areas: Community Enhancement and Environment; Culture and Recreation; Education and Personal Development; Health and Human Services; and Native American Interest. It supports preservation of the environment, economic and civic wellbeing, cultural and recreational accessibility, educational opportunities and personal development, health care, prevention and wellness services, and the preservation and education of Native American culture and traditions. Funding is available in three levels for qualified organizations during two annual cycles, with each applicant allowed one application per year.

  • The proposed project must directly benefit the people of Santa Barbara, Ventura, or San Luis Obispo Counties.
  • Applicants must demonstrate local leadership through Board representation or an advisory board.
  • Applicants must show broad-based local support.
  • Applicants must have local program management and accountability.
  • Organizations outside the mentioned counties must demonstrate knowledge of local needs and have explored collaboration opportunities.
  • Applicants must not discriminate in employment, volunteering, or service delivery based on race, color, religion, gender, national origin, ancestry, age, medical condition, disability, veteran status, marital status, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic.
  • Grants are for capital items or facility improvements (Capital Grants), or for new or expanding programs (Program Grants).

Organizations with policies counter to the Foundation’s nondiscrimination policy
Organizations seeking funds for indirect operating expenses
up to 10k
