The Robert H. Spitz Foundation, administered by the Scranton Area Community Foundation, aims to support a variety of causes ranging from breaking the cycle of poverty, veterans' affairs, animal welfare, the promotion and preservation of Jewish culture and cemeteries, to environmental protection. Their mission encompasses efforts to remove economic barriers, support veterans, ensure animal welfare, protect the environment, and promote Jewish culture.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Scranton Area Community Foundation has acknowledged the unprecedented need and impact on charitable organizations, focusing on assisting nonprofits to adapt and continue their essential work. The Critical Needs Grants are designed to support various ongoing needs within the community, with a rolling application process throughout the year. Additionally, the Community Events Grants program supports Lackawanna County nonprofit organizations in hosting community events, excluding fundraising events, with grants up to $1,000, also reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year.
