The primary mission of The Skatepark Project is to help underserved communities create safe and inclusive public skateparks for youth. This initiative aims to provide free, public skateparks in low-income areas in the United States, focusing on engaging local skaters in the planning process and ensuring parks are accessible, require no entrance fees, and do not necessitate waivers.
The Skatepark Project Grants program supports the construction of free, public skateparks in low-income communities across the United States, emphasizing parks designed and built from concrete by experienced contractors. The program targets areas with high numbers of at-risk youth, promoting involvement from local skaters in all aspects of park creation—from planning to design. Additionally, it looks for projects demonstrating strong community backing, particularly in fundraising efforts. The grant encourages the design of parks that include a diverse mix of skateable features, remain open all year during daylight, and do not over-regulate use or compromise safety. While there's no cap on application attempts, organizations can only receive one grant over $1,000 per skatepark area, with those granted $1,000 or less eligible to reapply.
