Overview

The JFLA Mini Grant for Japanese Arts & Culture Program is designed to enhance the understanding of Japanese arts and culture. It offers up to $5,000 to successful candidates for projects within Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. The grant covers expenses such as publicity fees, printing costs for promotional materials, honoraria for artists and lecturers, travel expenses including per diem and accommodation, shipping costs for related materials, and facility fees. Funding is provided in the form of reimbursement, awarded upon successful submission of a final report and proof of payment. Projects must apply at least 3 months prior to their start date.

  • Projects must take place within the 13 states west of the Rocky Mountains
  • The purpose must be to nurture understanding of Japanese arts and culture or produce U.S.-Japan collaborative projects
  • Eligible projects include performing arts, exhibitions, film screenings, lectures, and/or symposia
  • Organizations that have received support from the same program for three consecutive fiscal years are generally not eligible for a fourth consecutive year without a compelling reason

Applicants who have already received funding from other Japan Foundation grants for the same project
Organizations that have already received a Japan Foundation, Los Angeles grant in the last fiscal year
Language education programs (e.g., Japanese language workshops and conferences, etc.)
Medical, Technical, and Scientific projects
Political activities, religious activities, social welfare activities, fundraising and charity activities, and commercial activities
Projects whose effect is restricted to exchanges between specific groups/individuals.
