The mission of the Employment and Training Administration is to contribute to the more efficient functioning of the U.S. labor market by providing high-quality job training, employment, labor market information, and income maintenance services primarily through state and local workforce development systems.
National Dislocated Worker Grants (DWGs) are designed to support states and other eligible applicants in responding to significant job losses due to large, unexpected layoff events. These grants help to temporarily boost the ability to serve dislocated workers, including military service members, by increasing access to the employment and training services outlined in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). The overarching goal is to expedite the reemployment of laid-off workers while also improving their employability and earnings. Additionally, Disaster DWGs aim to provide temporary job opportunities for cleanup and recovery efforts in areas recognized as disaster-affected by FEMA or another authoritative federal agency.
