The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives.
The Graduate Research Initiative for Student Enhancement (G-RISE) program aims to diversify the scientific community by supporting Ph.D. students in developing the essential skills needed for successful careers in the biomedical research workforce. This includes implementing evidence-based approaches to training and mentoring. The program focuses on developing didactic, research, mentoring, and career development components within domestic institutions to prepare trainees for impactful careers in health-related research. Eligibility is limited to training programs at research-active institutions with a defined threshold of NIH Research Project Grant funding.
