The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives.
The NINDS Institutional Translational Research Training Program aims to bridge the gap between basic research and clinical application in the field of neurology. It seeks to provide trainees, including advanced predoctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and fellowship-stage clinicians, with the necessary knowledge and skills to progress basic, disease-relevant research toward clinical application. The program focuses on creating an interdisciplinary research environment that fosters collaboration among basic neuroscientists, clinicians, researchers with translational expertise, and partners in industry and government. Central to the program is a comprehensive educational approach to translational training, emphasizing experimental design, statistical and analytical skills, and effective science communication. Designed to last 2 years, this training program prepares participants to transition basic research findings into therapeutic solutions with a strong grasp of translational research processes.
