Waccamaw Community Foundation aims to support Georgetown and Horry county nonprofits through various grant programs, including competitive grants, disaster relief, and donor-advised funds, focusing on enhancing the capacity and sustainability of local organizations to benefit the community effectively.
The Knight Foundation focuses on promoting engaged communities through various investments. These include improving downtown areas and neighborhoods to make them more livable and economically thriving; enhancing public spaces to foster a deeper connection among residents and their surroundings; creating economic opportunities to attract and retain a diverse population through job creation and entrepreneurship; and transforming cities into “smart cities” that leverage digital technology for responsive, informed community engagement. Projects need to enhance the design and utility of spaces to meet these goals. Applications are by invitation only, requiring a concise project description that aligns with the foundation's focuses.
The funder prioritizes grant applications that demonstrate any of the following aspects: responsiveness to burgeoning needs, innovation in addressing current needs, the launch of promising pilot initiatives, strategies to enhance the cost-effectiveness of nonprofit entities, direct benefits for individuals in need, and a clear strategy for securing ongoing funding post the Foundation’s contribution.
