The American Meteorological Society aims to advance the atmospheric and related sciences, technologies, applications, and services for the benefit of society.
The Father James B. Macelwane Annual Award encourages interest in meteorology among college students through the submission of original papers related to the atmospheric sciences. Established in honor of Rev. James B. Macelwane, S.J., a leading figure in seismology and former Dean at Saint Louis University, the award seeks to recognize outstanding student contributions to the field. The recipient receives a $1000 stipend supported by AMS member donations. The competition is open to undergraduate students, with a limit of two submissions per institution. The Society particularly encourages submissions from women, minorities, and disabled students, to support diversity in the atmospheric and related sciences.
