The Anschutz Family Foundation Grant aims to fund Colorado-based nonprofit organizations that align with its broad goals of enhancing community strength, promoting self-sufficiency, and supporting vulnerable populations. The grant focuses on areas such as family support, literacy, homelessness, youth development, early childhood development, community building, crisis intervention, programs for seniors, and services for people with disabilities. Ideal candidates for funding demonstrate goals aligned with the Foundation's mission, offer needed and unique services, manage sustainable funding models, and maintain solid financial health with a track record of success. Grants typically range from $5,000-$10,000 and usually do not exceed 10 percent of an organization’s annual budget.

  • Aims for an even distribution of grants between organizations serving Colorado’s rural and urban communities
  • Only one application per organization is accepted per calendar year
  • Organizations receiving funding for two consecutive calendar years must take one year off before re-applying
  • A final report for any previously awarded grant is required before a new request is considered
  • Accepts general operating or program/project requests within funding areas
  • Challenge or matching grants are issued occasionally in the spring funding cycle, generally not by request

Capital campaigns, except on rare occasions for organizations in rural Colorado with missions aligning closely with the Foundation's interests, requiring a preliminary letter of inquiry

Endowments, debt reduction, or loans
Grants to individuals
Healthcare, mental health, or disease-specific programs
Multi-year grants
Organizations with annual budgets over $5 million
Organizations in leadership transition (i.e., interim director)
Organizations that discriminate in any way
Political causes, candidates, or campaigns
Public policy, advocacy, or research
Start-up organizations
Programs outside of Colorado
Religious organizations for religious purposes
Special events, conferences, or promotions
Type III supporting organizations under IRC Section 509(a)(3).
