From New Hampshire Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP)

The mission of LCHIP (Land and Community Heritage Investment Program) is to conserve and preserve New Hampshire’s most important natural, cultural, and historic resources. Since its inception in 2001, LCHIP has awarded $54 million dollars to various organizations, indicating a commitment to the protection and celebration of New Hampshire's rich heritage across its communities.

Type of Support

Overview

The grant program provided by LCHIP focuses on supporting the permanent protection of ecologically significant lands through both the acquisition of property or easement interests and the rehabilitation of historic buildings and structures. It emphasizes land conservation for various purposes, including water quality protection, wildlife habitat enhancement, preservation of scenic views, and conservation of crucial forest and agricultural lands. Additionally, the grant supports efforts that maintain New Hampshire's economic base through forest products and local food supply, as well as tourism enhancement. Grants awarded are a minimum of $10,000 and can go up to $500,000, covering no more than 50% of the total project cost. All resources conserved with LCHIP funds must be protected with a conservation easement, deed restrictions, or a grant agreement.
