The Wildlife Division is dedicated to monitoring wildlife species' numbers and health, setting conservation and management objectives, restoring and maintaining habitats, and regulating game animal harvests. Integral to its mission, the Oregon Conservation Strategy guides its efforts in conserving the state's biodiversity and ecosystems, ensuring sustainable wildlife populations and habitats.
The Access & Habitat (A&H) Grant Program focuses on projects that aim to improve wildlife habitat and enhance public hunting access to private lands. It operates on the guiding principles of collaboration between landowners, hunters, and other stakeholders to achieve its dual goals. Specifically, the program supports initiatives that lead to tangible improvements in habitat for wildlife and simultaneously provide or improve access for public hunting on private properties. The program is overseen by a board, reflecting a balanced representation from the hunting community, landowners, and the general public, ensuring a diverse range of perspectives inform project decisions. The grants seek to embody the program's overarching objective of fostering wildlife conservation while promoting hunting opportunities, underpinned by legislation and sustained through community and stakeholder engagement.
