To protect and preserve South Dakota's agriculture, environment, and natural resources through effective regulatory services, natural resource conservation, and financial and technical assistance.
The grant program focuses on funding sanitary and storm sewer projects, supporting both the development and maintenance of essential water management infrastructure. It is designed to offer financial assistance through grants and low-interest loans for projects listed on the State Water Facilities Plan. Funding is available for projects that aim to enhance wastewater treatment and storm water management, with special considerations for economic development, regionalization or consolidation of facilities, or other unique demands. Additional subsidies or loan principal forgiveness may be granted to applicants meeting minimum residential water rates, although meeting these rates does not guarantee an additional subsidy. Specific funding paths are outlined for projects under $250,000, as well as projects not eligible for Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF) loans, such as new water systems or projects primarily for fire protection.
