Emergency Community Water Assistance Grants in South Dakota

From USDA: Rural Development (RD)

We are committed to helping improve the economy and quality of life in rural America.

Type of Support

Overview

The grant program supports eligible communities in preparing for or recovering from emergencies that compromise the availability of safe, reliable drinking water. Covered emergencies include natural disasters like droughts, floods, earthquakes, and human-caused incidents such as chemical spills without the need for a federal disaster declaration. Grants may be applied towards construction or repairs related to water transmission lines up to $150,000 and water source projects up to $1,000,000, including creating or improving water sources, intakes, or treatment facilities. The goal is to aid in quickly restoring access to clean water, thereby supporting households and businesses, and encouraging economic development by making affected rural areas more attractive for business operations. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis through online submission or at local RD offices.
