Overview

The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) provides up to $1 billion to support States and local governments in adopting and implementing the latest building energy codes, including zero energy building codes or equivalent standards. This funding aims to contribute to the decarbonization of new, renovated, and existing residential and commercial buildings by encouraging the adoption of energy-efficient building codes. The grant supports local capacity building, multi-year investments in workforce and education, and long-term improvements in building energy efficiency through adoption of national model building codes, innovative decarbonization measures for existing buildings, and the establishment of building performance standards.
